Io dico Io – I say I Curated by Cecilia Canziani, Lara Conte and Paola Ugolini 03.01.2021 –– 05.23.2021
The second event of Connection Gallery, a project by the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, curated by Massimo Mininni, sees the participation of Invernomuto, an artistic duo made up of Simone Bertini and Simone Trabucchi. After the work of Andrea Mastrovito, the three stage exhibition series that started in June continues with its intention to give space to the work of young artists, selected on the basis of their ability to tune their creative expression to that of the museum and its peculiarities through the creation of a site-specific work.
The Mediterranean Sea has long been the inquiry field of choice for Invernomuto and their contribution to the Gallery, titled Prima delle Sabbie (Before the Sands) marks a new phase, fully contextualised within the museum. The work offers a completely new narration of the Mediterranean, as soon as a different perspective is applied to the way it is seen, which turns it from an extensive marine surface into a ‘protean’ subject, a river with several mouths, where the North-South co-ordinates cannot be traced anymore, but the sea is in a mutual communication with the territory. The installation of Invernomuto involves the piece Fiume con foce tripla (River with triple estuary) (1967) by Pino Pascali, an important presence within the Gallery collection.
